Recipe G3806C is a high-fluidity, transparent cone 6 base glaze engineered for reactive colorants such as copper and tin. Technical Characteristics: This glaze is formulated for high-melt fluidity and low surface tension, which facilitates the clearance of micro-bubbles often generated by carbonate-based colorants. Visual Properties: Produces a brilliant, high-gloss finish. When combined with 2% copper carbonate and 2.5% tin oxide, it yields a turquoise celadon effect. Application Guidelines: Due to its high fluidity, this glaze is susceptible to running if applied too thickly. It is best suited for application on porcelain or specific stoneware bodies. Users should be aware that high-flux, fluid-melt glazes typically possess a higher coefficient of thermal expansion (COE) and may exhibit crazing on certain clay bodies. Stability & Safety: While fluid melts provide superior surface quality and bubble clearing, they are inherently less durable than standard functional glazes. They may be prone to cutlery marking, surface crystallization, and leaching depending on firing conditions. For industrial use, further optimization of the flux source (e.g., substituting low-melt frits with feldspars) is recommended to manage the firing range and gas release. Firing: Best results are achieved with a drop-and-hold firing schedule to optimize glass development and surface healing.
