Usage Instructions
Recipe G2931L is a low-expansion, clear ceramic glaze designed for cone 03-02 firing. Developed as a modification of the G2931K base, this formulation reduces thermal expansion (coefficient of 6.3) by incorporating ZnO, ZrO2, and increased MgO and SiO2, making it suitable for low-fire clay bodies prone to crazing. Thermal expansion may be further fine-tuned by blending with G2931K. Application: Maintain a specific gravity of 1.43. To achieve optimal thixotropic flow, add vinegar or Epsom salts until the glaze stabilizes within 2–3 seconds after stirring. This consistency allows for uniform application on both high and low-porosity bisque. Firing: A hold/slow-drop schedule (e.g., 04DSDH) is required to ensure a defect-free, crystal-clear surface. Stability note: Glaze fit depends on the clay body's talc content; verify fit through testing on specific substrates.
