Usage Instructions
Recipe GR10-E is a versatile celadon base composed primarily of Alberta Slip and Ravenscrag Slip. The formulation allows for adjustments to thermal expansion, melt fluidity, and color saturation by modifying the ratios of the slip components and the selection of secondary frits. Application: To mitigate high drying shrinkage caused by the high clay content, it is recommended to replace a portion of the raw Alberta Slip with calcined or roasted Alberta Slip. Roasting to approximately 538°C (1000°F) effectively reduces shrinkage and cracking during the application process. Firing Properties: While intended for high-fire applications, excessive melting and crazing may occur at Cone 10 reduction. Adjusting the frit chemistry (e.g., Frit 3134 for higher expansion, 3249 for lower expansion, or 3124 for neutral behavior) can fine-tune physical performance. Aesthetics: The glaze produces a transparent finish with significant depth, characterized by varying color density that highlights contours and edges. Performance on both stoneware and porcelain is highly dependent on uniform thickness during application.
