Usage Instructions

Glaze GA10x-A consists of Alberta Slip fortified with 10% Frit 3134. This formulation produces a glossy, transparent brown finish when fired to Cone 10. Under oxidation, the glaze exhibits increased transparency and lighter coloration compared to reduction firing. Due to the inherent plasticity and high drying shrinkage of raw Alberta Slip, cracking and crawling can occur during drying and firing. To mitigate these issues, use a combination of raw and roasted (calcined) Alberta Slip. Roasting to 1000°F produces a fine, stable powder; calcining to 1850°F yields a coarser, sintered material. Because Alberta Slip loses approximately 3% of its weight during roasting, adjust the formulation accordingly, though a gram-for-gram substitution is generally acceptable for this recipe.
