Usage Instructions

Waterfall Brown is a high-fluidity, iron-bearing glaze formulated for Cone 6 oxidation firing. It produces a glossy, variegated finish characterized by dark brown tones that break over textures to reveal cream, tan, or bluish-gray highlights. The mechanism relies on rutile and iron oxide to achieve dynamic vertical movement and micro-crystalline streaking. For optimal suspension, the glaze incorporates a high percentage of plastic clay; thixotropic adjustment with Epsom salts is recommended to maintain stability. Due to its fluid nature, application must be tapered toward the base of the piece to prevent runoff during firing. Variations in rutile batches may influence the degree of variegation or cause surface defects like pinholing. Slow cooling cycles can further modify the visual output, often yielding red-orange hues and increased depth. The glaze is engineered for high acid resistance and chemical stability, making it suitable for dinnerware, although individual batch testing for leaching is advised.
