Usage Instructions
Recipe GR6-L is a chrome-tin stain-based variant of the GR6-A base (80% Ravenscrag Slip, 20% Frit 3134) formulated for Cone 6 firing. The addition of 10% Mason 6006 stain provides a stable, consistent raspberry color. This glaze is transparent and exhibits a 'breaking' effect, where color intensity is higher in areas of accumulation and lighter on contours where the glaze is thin. The host chemistry is specifically balanced with a minimum 10% CaO and low MgO levels to ensure optimal chrome-tin color development. For pastel or variegated finishes, 2–4% titanium dioxide may be added as an opacifier. Application rheology is critical to prevent defects; maintain a specific gravity of approximately 1.45 to ensure smooth, uniform coverage. If the slurry is too thick, it can lead to uneven crystallization, runs, and poor surface definition. The glaze is compatible with standard Cone 6 firing schedules, including the C6DHSC cycle. Refer to the GR6-A master recipe for base mixing instructions.
