Glaze GR10-J1 is a dolomite matte base formulated for cone 10 reduction firing. Technical variations include: 1. Bamboo effect: Add 1% iron oxide to the base. 2. Alternative bamboo/opaque finish: Add 3.5% rutile and 10% Zircopax. Compatibility: Suitable for porcelain, buff stoneware, and iron-bearing stoneware. Performance notes: Application on porcelain surfaces typically yields enhanced tonal variation and red undertones. Surface durability: The glaze demonstrates favorable chemical stability and resistance to staining. If utilizing formulas with lower CaO/MgO and higher KNaO content, expect increased thermal expansion (up to 7.9), leading to potential crazing and higher porosity. Increased flux content, such as the addition of 4% Gerstley Borate, improves surface vitrification and reduces staining susceptibility.
