Notes & Instructions

Recipe G2826X is a Gerstley Borate-based iron-red glaze designed for Cone 6 firing. The formulation is chemically analogous to standard iron-red recipes. It exhibits a high melt fluidity, which is necessary for the development of iron-red crystals. The glaze produces significant gas evolution during the melting phase, which may result in surface bubbling. If using a Gerstley Borate substitute, 'Boraq' is an effective alternative. While the formulation does not require a specialized firing schedule to initiate color development, melt fluidity and cooling rates are the primary variables influencing final crystal growth and surface quality.
