Notes & Instructions
G2571A is a cone 10 reduction-fired dolomite matte glaze characterized by a durable, silky surface texture. Unlike many magnesium-based mattes, this formulation is engineered for chemical stability, preventing common defects such as crazing, cutlery marking, and surface staining. The base is highly versatile and compatible with various colorants and opacifiers. Notable additions include 3.5% rutile and 10% Zircopax for a 'bamboo' effect, or combinations of titanium dioxide and ceramic stains to induce controlled phase separation and variegation. To ensure optimal application, maintain a specific gravity of 1.43–1.45. The glaze should be slightly flocculated to achieve proper suspension. Excessive thickness can lead to application defects, while an overly thin application may cause shrinkage and crawling during the drying phase. The glaze chemistry is adjustable; calcium and boron sources may be substituted using appropriate frits or carbonates to achieve consistent melting characteristics if specific raw materials are unavailable.
