MoO3 (Molybdic Oxide)
ID: moo3
Notas
Molybdenum trioxide (MoO3) functions as a potent additive in ceramic applications, particularly due to its ability to significantly reduce surface tension during the melting process. Even in minute concentrations—typically around 0.2%—it acts as an effective wetting agent. This reduction in surface tension facilitates the formation of crystals within glazes and imparts an iridescent appearance to both crystalline surfaces and luster finishes. Beyond its influence on glaze maturation and texture, MoO3 serves as an adherence promoter in enamels and is utilized in the formulation of specific ceramic stains. In its anhydrous state, the oxide presents as a yellow solid, though impurities may impart a blue or green coloration. As an industrial compound, it undergoes rapid oxidation at temperatures exceeding 800°F.
