Glaze: MGBase6. Technical Characteristics: MGBase6 is a zinc-based, semi-opaque, semi-matte glaze that produces a muted teal or sage green aesthetic. The zinc oxide content facilitates the development of a micro-crystalline surface, resulting in an eggshell-like finish. Application: Apply at a medium thickness; thin applications will result in a dry, under-fired appearance. The glaze exhibits excellent viscosity, preventing running or excessive pooling, which preserves the definition of surface textures and sculptural details. Performance: This glaze is generally compatible with standard stoneware bodies with a low incidence of crazing. Limitations: Surfaces are susceptible to metal marking when in contact with stainless steel; therefore, use is recommended for exterior surfaces, with acid-resistant glossy glazes preferred for interior food-contact surfaces. The glaze is moderately sensitive to kiln atmosphere and peak temperature, as excessive heat may cause copper-based colorants to shift or exhibit metallic oxidation. It may demonstrate reduced acid resistance over extended use compared to high-gloss alternatives.
