Usage Instructions

G2931K is a lead-free, all-fritted transparent clear glaze formulated for cone 03, optimized for use on Zero3 stoneware and porcelain. It is engineered to provide superior clarity, gloss, and fit, minimizing boron-blue clouding and micro-bubbling through a balanced Al2O3:SiO2 ratio and controlled CaO levels. Application: Dipping is recommended for optimal consistency. Maintain a specific gravity of 1.43. If thixotropy is insufficient, add Epsom salts to reach a creamy, brushable, or dip-ready viscosity. Firing: A drop-and-hold schedule (e.g., cone 03, 1950°F/1065°C) is required to ensure full vitrification and to clear micro-bubbles. Thermal Expansion: This glaze is designed for bodies with mid-range thermal expansion. It may craze on zero-talc porous bodies and shiver on high-talc bodies. Expansion can be modified by adjusting alkali flux (KNaO) ratios or through the addition of stains and Zircopax (2–3% addition of Zircopax is recommended with stains to prevent surface defects like orange peeling or bubbling). Preparation: For dipping, use a water-to-powder ratio of 4.5 kg water to 5 kg glaze powder. For brushing, incorporate 1.5% CMC gum and 1.5% Veegum. Safety/Stability: Ensure uniform application thickness; excessive accumulation in recessed areas may trap air. G2931K is not intended for firing ranges below cone 04.
