Usage Instructions
G3879 is a professional-grade, transparent low-fire base glaze formulated for firing between cone 06 and 04. Engineered through reverse-engineering commercial standards, it provides high clarity, excellent melt properties, and high durability. The glaze is designed to minimize thermal expansion, reducing the risk of crazing across various clay bodies. It is highly versatile, serving as a stable base for encapsulated stains, tin, or zircon opacifiers. Technical properties include a mobile melt at cone 04 with high Al2O3 and SiO2 content, comparable to higher-fire glaze chemistry, which ensures surface hardness and resistance to pinholing or blistering. For dipping, the addition of gum solution is recommended (e.g., 7g Laguna gum per 100g powder). For brushing, a formulation of 100g powder, 125g water, 1.5g CMC, and 1.5g Veegum is effective. The recipe is adjustable; thermal expansion can be further reduced by substituting Frit F-524 with Frit F-69. Proper record-keeping and material testing are advised when adapting for specific clay bodies or firing schedules.
