Usage Instructions

Glaze GA10-D utilizes Alberta Slip as the primary base for cone 10 reduction firing. To mitigate drying shrinkage and crawling, the base must consist of a 50:50 ratio of calcined to raw Alberta Slip. Preparation requires calcining to 1000°F to stabilize the material while maintaining a fine powder consistency. For a jet-black glossy finish, add 1% black stain (Mason 6666 or 6600) to the base. Increasing stain concentrations to 5% shifts the surface finish toward matte. Additions of 5-10% black stain combined with 5-7% iron oxide will produce a crystalline gunmetal texture. Ball milling is recommended for optimal slurry homogeneity. Surface characteristics can be further modified by blending Mason 6600 and 6666 stains.
