Recipe GR10-C (RavenTalc Matte) is a high-fire base glaze formulated for cone 10 reduction. The composition consists of 90% Ravenscrag Slip (blended 50/50 raw and roasted) and 10% talc. The addition of talc introduces MgO to facilitate a silky, durable matte finish. Application: For dipping, utilize a water-to-powder ratio of 1000:1000, resulting in a specific gravity of approximately 1.42. Performance: The glaze exhibits significant variation between oxidation and reduction atmospheres, with reduction causing increased melting and darkening due to iron interaction. This formula serves as a versatile base for pigments, opacifiers, and variegators. It is functional, resistant to staining and cutlery marking, and suitable for use as a liner glaze. Caution: Opacifiers such as tin oxide demonstrate reduced effectiveness in reduction atmospheres.
