Usage Instructions
GA6-F is a Cone 6 Alberta Slip-based glaze characterized by an oatmeal-textured matte finish. The variegation is derived from the crystallization of excess titanium and rutile during cooling. Application should be kept thin to prevent pinholing, blistering, and surface instability, as heavy applications produce a micro-crystalline surface prone to cutlery marking and potential leaching. To minimize drying shrinkage and prevent crawling during firing, it is recommended to substitute raw Alberta Slip with roasted Alberta Slip (calcined to 1000°F). While the raw material loses approximately 3% mass during roasting, a 1:1 gram substitution is generally acceptable. The glaze is stable for use without manganese. Rutile and titanium levels may be adjusted to modify variegation, though lower concentrations are recommended for improved surface durability. Spray application is preferred for consistent, thin-layered results on functional ware.
