Usage Instructions

Glaze: MGBase7 (Raspberry) Visual Characteristics: • Produces a glossy, translucent to semi-opaque finish. • Color ranges from bright pink at Cone 5 to burgundy with a slightly more purple hue at Cone 6. • Creates a smooth, glass-like surface. • Breaks clear or white over sharp edges and highlights texture through color concentration in recesses. Compositional Basis: • Color development is attributed to the Chrome-Tin Pink effect, characterized by high calcium, absence of zinc, and low boron content. Application & Firing Properties: • Optimal Clay Bodies: Achieves best results on white clay bodies such as porcelain or white stoneware, where its translucent nature enhances carved or textured surfaces. • Temperature Sensitivity: • Fires to a more matte, true pink at Cone 5. • Develops a glossier, slightly more purple appearance at Cone 6. Technical Considerations: • Thermal Expansion: Exhibits high thermal expansion, increasing the propensity for crazing on clay bodies with lower thermal expansion coefficients. • Cost: Formulation includes a high percentage of tin oxide, contributing to higher material cost. • Crazing Risk: High risk of crazing on low-silica clay bodies. • Fuming: Chrome volatility may lead to fuming during firing. When fired adjacent to tin-containing white glazes, chrome fumes can impart a faint pink discoloration to the white glaze. • Clay Body Interaction: Color intensity and clarity are diminished on dark, iron-rich stoneware, resulting in a muted or compromised appearance.
