Usage Instructions
Recipe GC106 is a crystalline base formulated for use with Glass Coatings and Concepts Frit #106. Optimal performance is achieved at Cone 10–11; the glaze is significantly underfired at Cone 7 and exhibits marginal development at Cone 9. Characterized by a high silica-to-alumina ratio (23:1), this base produces a stiff melt that necessitates higher firing temperatures. Crystal growth is rapid, potentially reaching 1cm in diameter within 15 minutes of initiation. The glaze supports a wide range of colorants, with copper oxide producing brilliant results and cobalt showing reduced tendency to precipitate or 'felt.' Additions of ilmenite or rutile promote the formation of large, uniform crystals. Standard base formulation consists of 70 parts Frit 106, 25 parts zinc oxide, 3 parts silica, and 2 parts titania.
