Usage Instructions

G2826R is a Cone 6 rutile-based variegated glaze. Its visual characteristics include color pooling, opalescence, and micro-variations in opacity created by the interaction of rutile, cobalt, and iron. The glaze exhibits high melt fluidity, resulting in thinning over contours and distinct color breaks. It is formulated with a high Gerstley Borate content, which can lead to slurry instability, solubility issues, and gelling. To improve rheological performance, substitution with boron-stable frits or switching to alternative base chemistries like the GR6-M Ravenscrag or Alberta Slip-based systems is recommended. These alternatives maintain the signature aesthetic while providing superior slurry consistency and reduced tendency to craze. For optimal results, application thickness should be controlled; while effective on light-colored clays, the glaze performs best on dark-burning stoneware bodies. Secondary techniques such as stippling, double-dipping, or applying metallic washes may be used to enhance surface variegation.
