Usage Instructions
GR6-N is a cone 6 oxidation glaze formulated with a Ravenscrag Slip base. It is characterized by a high-gloss finish and significant melt fluidity, which produces increased transparency and color variation over contours. Technical features include: (1) Surface Texture: The glaze produces deliberate speckling through the inclusion of cobalt oxide agglomerates. Ball milling is not recommended, as it will dissolve these particles and eliminate the desired aesthetic effect. (2) Application: Due to the high melt fluidity, a crisp rim boundary is maintained only if the interior liner glaze exhibits low-to-moderate melt fluidity; pairing with a high-fluidity liner may cause bleeding at the rim. Despite the fluid melt, the glaze remains stable and does not run at the foot. (3) Coloration: The base color is green, influenced by the iron content in the underlying clay body; higher iron content in the body results in a more intense green. The rutile content contributes to blue coloration in thicker applications; this may be reduced to achieve a truer celadon aesthetic. (4) Firing: Optimized for cone 6 oxidation. (5) Mixing: Follow standard preparation protocols as defined for the GR6-A master recipe series.
