Glaze Code: GRNTCG. Recommended firing range: Cone 8–10 (optimum results at Cone 9). This formulation is a high-titanium crystal glaze characterized by the formation of moderate zinc silicate crystals alongside a high density of titanium/rutile crystals. Crystal morphology: Round, opaque, eggshell to light yellow with diffuse edges. Ground color: Ecru/white in oxidation; mauve/purple in reduction. Crazing is not detectable. Performance notes: The glaze exhibits poor seeding properties. It is highly reactive to colorants, though nickel should be avoided due to negative interaction. Cobalt induces a peacock blue shift in rutile crystals; copper additions result in maroon crystal outlines. Rutile additions produce orange hues, which shift to burnt orange under reduction. Note that pigment additions may suppress the inherent mauve/purple reduction color. Crystal growth rate is temperature-dependent, scaling positively with higher firing cones.
