Notes & Instructions

Glaze FO is a crystalline formulation optimized for rapid crystal growth within the cone 6–9 firing range, with peak performance at cone 8. At cone 5, external seeding is required for crystal development. The base produces a colorless, translucent to transparent ground, while crystals appear opaque white, occasionally bluish, with a distinct 'volcanic' pointed morphology. Crystal growth rates average 1 cm per hour. Crazing is positively correlated with crystal density and coating thickness; excessive application significantly increases crazing susceptibility. The glaze is compatible with standard crystalline colorants, including copper, which produces red or metallic crystals on a turquoise ground in reduction atmospheres. Zincite-based seeding is effective but can lead to overcrowding if application is too dense. A rapid temperature ramp is recommended to maintain crystal integrity. This formulation is highly stable across a wide temperature range and is suitable for diverse vessel forms.
