Notes & Instructions

Glaze G1214M is a cone 6 base formulated to support chrome-tin pink and maroon stain development, characterized by high calcium oxide and low boron trioxide content. While functional, it is superseded by the G2926B base for superior overall performance. Chemical adjustments, such as a 20% silica addition, significantly improve melt, gloss, hardness, leaching resistance, and thermal expansion compatibility. G1214M is compatible with various staining agents, though specific results vary based on host chemistry; for example, chrome-tin pinks require this specific base, whereas brown stains perform better in magnesium-bearing bases like G2926N or O. For layered glazing or oil-spot effects using overlays like Ravenscrag or Alberta Slip, thin application is critical. When utilizing raw slip materials, adjust the raw-to-calcined ratio to minimize drying shrinkage and prevent cracking. Spray application is recommended for consistent production results.
