SO3 (Sulfur Trioxide)

ID: so3

SO3

Notas

In ceramic chemistry, sulfur trioxide (SO3) acts primarily as a fugitive component that is eliminated during the kiln firing process. While it is present in various raw ceramic materials, including stoneware, fireclay, and brick clays—sometimes reaching concentrations of 5% or higher—it does not persist in the final matured glass matrix. Consequently, SO3 is considered a contributor to loss on ignition (LOI). When performing glaze analysis, SO3 is treated as having no formula weight, ensuring that its presence in raw materials does not distort calculations for fired glaze properties or molecular formula ratios.
