Lead(II) fluoride (PbF2) is a solid inorganic compound characterized by its polymorphic nature. At room temperature, it maintains an orthorhombic crystalline structure, which transitions into a cubic fluorite-type lattice when subjected to elevated temperatures. Within the context of ceramic and glass science, fluoride-based compounds often function as potent fluxes, capable of lowering the viscosity and melting temperature of glass-forming melts; however, the use of lead-containing compounds is strictly regulated in contemporary ceramics due to significant toxicity concerns regarding leaching and human exposure.
